Ugly Truths:

1) Preteens probably shouldn’t have phones, but parents give them anyway.

2) Young teens shouldn’t be on social media, but parents allow.

3) Older teens still need guidance and check-ins.

4) If you have younger users, knowing and catering to that might be safer.

gm On Saturday, hackers stole $375,000 worth of NFTs and crypto tokens from 2 of my Ethereum wallets How are you today? A thread with more information 👇
BEFORE I START I know how stupid I was. $375K worth of stupid. I put private keys and seed phrases in txt files on my mac's filesystem. That is a bad idea. I didn't use a hardware wallet for high value assets. I know. I know. I KNOW
You can make fun of me if you like. I sort of expect some people to rip on me. It will probably still hurt.
WHAT HAPPENED Hackers found @MetaMask and @TrustWallet ETH private keys on my Mac or iPhone and used them to login to @opensea and sell off everything they could for WETH, then they transferred all the WETH and other tokens to address: 0x35d1be4225f8681a9f394a31403f029d1194fec8
The @metamask NFTs were sold on opensea for $294,000. The @trustwallet coins $WOO $GET $FTM and $OUSD worth $81,000 were sent to the same wallet. You can see the relevant transactions from 9/18/2021 on @etherscan https://etherscan.io/tokentxns?a=0x2Ec848474c85456965A0174F65b95fB5c706AD53 https://etherscan.io/tokentxns?a=0xf7932941b3f98b4d55e0db9dea546f7747a262fc
(I may have made some math errors, feel free to correct me.)
You can see them all at https://opensea.io/ArrDub?identifier=ArrDub&tab=activity Wow compiling this particular list did NOT feel good AT ALL
By the way, when was the @pixelvault_ snapshot for the 'full set'. I wonder if I qualified in time before the hack, and will they send my future airdrops to the hacked account. Hm.
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN I don't know how I got hacked. I thought it was malware, but I ran @Malwarebytes scans on both my Macs and it came up with nothing. I doubt it was a @brave or @firefox problem, unless they were used to inject malware that my scan did not catch.
And I doubt it was just @opensea, since my @trustwallet account was also compromised. I'm a pretty careful guy. I ace my company's phishing challenges emails. I don't follow random links. I don't download software from unknown sources and just hope they are OK.
Heck, I have written several login systems for various websites. I'm wired up to worry.
My gut feeling is the hack was caused by one of 3 things: 1. I was hit by one of those new iOS zero-day attacks where you don't have to even click a link. Just receiving a malicious text roots your device.
This attack has been in the news lately because state actors use it to target devices of interest, and succeed. Once they have root, attackers can extract keys from @TrustWallet and @rainbowdotme. Game over.
2. A connected app to my @Dropbox account abused its rights to scan all my files in all folders until it found ETH public/private keys. Or a rogue current or former employee at Dropbox abused their privileges to do the same.
3. Something else
I definitely had private keys in .txt files in my Dropbox folder. That was dumb. I definitely didn't use a hardware wallet like a trezor, or the ledger which sits in my drawer unused because I find the user interface annoying. I practiced terrible OpSec and paid dearly for it.
THE "GOOD" NEWS I didn't pay nearly $375,000 for these NFTs and tokens. They have appreciated a HUGE amount during this bull run for NFT and crypto. None of the assets cost me more than $10k.
I can afford to lose the money. This is the one thing I have always done right--never risk more than you are willing to lose when you invest in crypto or NFTs.
A big surprise: centralized exchanges really saved my butt on this. I have a good amount of ETH and BTC on centralized exchanges and none of it was stolen. Also, I passed 2,000 followers on twitter in the immediate aftermath. Yay?
THE BAD NEWS The bad guys own my filesystem, and I have decades of important documents there. Some old ssh keys that probably still work, financial documents, etc. This is going to take me months to get under control.
Most likely this is just a smash and grab where they snatch the super liquid stuff and run off. But maybe not.
WHAT NOW I contacted the authorities by filing a complaint with IC3 https://www.ic3.gov/ I bought a @Trezor and will use it for any future NFTs, I will call an accountant to see if I can get any relief on taxes this year. Please reach out to me if you know how this works.
I will lose my mind if I'm taxed on capital gains for the stolen NFTs/coins. LOL
HOW CAN YOU HELP The first thing you should do is go to trezor dot io and buy yourself a trezor and use it for your high-value NFTs. If you do this one thing, please share with me below, or send me a DM or email me baccredited at http://fastmail.com .
It will make me feel better and make me think sharing all this painful stuff was the right move.
A mind boggling number of people have reached out via twitter DMs, likes, or replies to offer their help. The NFT community is incredible. I'm gonna have to do another thread about the specific generous offers they made because it will blow your mind.
If you offered, I promise to get back to you with a request or at least a thank you at some point.
If you've been hacked and lost NFTs, please send me a twitter private message or email to baccredited at http://fastmail.com . I will keep your identity private. I just want to connect.
The wounds are still pretty fresh on this, so I'm a bit lost. I would love to turn this into a positive thing for others somehow. I'm thinking about setting up a DAO or similar to help other people who have lost NFTs through hacking.
Especially folks who are financially devastated by the hack (again, I'm not). I haven't fleshed out these ideas yet, and would need lots of help.
It would be tough, but not impossible, to do this in a way that is secure and legal, and continues without me being involved somewhere down the line. If you have any thoughts on this please share them below, or send a DM or email.

0/ A hallmark of revolutionary new art is that it is easy to dismiss at first. Today the chaos and commercialism around non-fungible art can obscure how transformative it is. The future of art is digital and the future of digital art is NFTs. Introducing The Numnum Institute.
0:000:00
1/ The Numnum Institute is a digital museum dedicated to fostering understanding & appreciation of digital art in both its members and the general public. Our mission is to grow the audience for digital art, discover & promote digital artists and redefine the role of art museums.
2/ In the physical world, art museums are a largely one-way experience. You visit, admire the art, and leave (perhaps with a print from the gift shop). So far curation for NFTs has been mostly skeuomorphic: you enter a digital space, look at the art, and leave.
3/ What would a truly crypto-native, digital first art museum look like? Members and visitors should be able to go beyond just admiring the art we hold - they should be able to interact with it. They should be able to take a piece of it home with them.
4/ Curation should be more than just collecting the most prominent works. Curation should be about experiencing digital art in a new and different way. Experimenting with scarcity and secrecy and ownership and what they mean for beauty.
5/ A truly crypto-native museum should be as much a work of art as the collection itself. Membership in the Numnum Institute will be its own work of generative art - a collection of NFTs corresponding to the natural numbers. Meet the Numnums.
6/ Minting a Numnum is a way of supporting the mission of the Institute, but it is also an access key to your own unique works of generative and derivative art collected and commissioned by the Institute.
7/ Prior to launch the NNI acquired a @BoredApeYC prisoner ape and commissioned a set of unique derivatives NFTs for each of our members. Each Numnum has its own entirely unique relationship with the original work.
0:000:00
8/ The Numnum Institute will continue to curate and collect exemplary works of digital art - both historically prominent pieces and also newer works from innovative artists around the globe. The Numnum Institute will never sell acquired art. 💎👐
9/ The goal of the collection is not just to gather interesting art but to experiment with new ways of experiencing art - unique derivatives, collective curation, and other things that NFT technology makes possible.
10/ If you would like to loan or donate a piece to the museum’s collection please reach out! If you are an artist interested in working with the Numnums Institute please reach out! If you are an enthusiast who loves NFTs and just wants to share it, please reach out!
11/ We are excited to keep unveiling more about our plans and collection over the next few weeks, including details about how to mint a Numnum and secure your membership. Follow us here to learn more! 🔢

1/ Tokens are a new digital primitive, analogous to the website 🧵
2/ Major computing waves generally have two eras: the skeuomorphic era and the native era.
3/ In the skeuomorphic era, the design thinking is largely adapted from older domains. For example, the early web was mostly digital adaptations of pre-internet activities like letter writing and mail-order shopping. Websites back then were mostly read only.
4/ It took about a decade for technologists to start seriously exploring the idea that websites could be read/write, where users generate the content. This led to the growth of web native categories like social networking, crowdfunding, and social productivity apps.
5/ This pattern is repeating itself with crypto/Web 3. There are some great native Web 3 products, but overall we are still in the skeuomorphic era. Many Web 3 products are adaptations from older domains.
6/ Popular skeuomorphic Web 3 ideas include offline ticketing, supply chain management, and record keeping for offline assets. These may be good ideas, just as read-only websites were a good idea, but they only scratch the surface of what Web 3 can be.
7/ A lot of today’s NFTs are adaptations from the offline world of art and collectibles. This leads people to think that NFTs are limited to those domains, in the same way people once thought the web was limited to brochures and magazines.
8/ Tokens—fungibles and NFTs— are better thought of as new digital primitives, similar in flexibility and generality to past digital primitives like the website.
9/ Tokens give users property rights: the ability to own a piece of the internet.
10/ Web 2 left out digital property rights. When you use a site (or app), it would only let you borrow or rent things. Imagine if in the real world you had to buy everything from scratch every time you went to a new place. That’s Web 2.
11/ Like websites, tokens are digital primitives that can be generalized to represent almost anything-- money, art, photo, music, text, code, game items, control, access, and whatever people dream up in the future.
12/ Users can now have a persistent inventory of objects in their wallet that they take from one app to another. If their objects increase in value, the user gets the upside. This is a big change from Web 2 where the upside was mostly captured by tech companies.
13/ We are still very much in the skeuomorphic era of Web 3, but are starting to see a new wave of native applications that have no prior analogue and simply couldn’t have existed before.
14/ For example, building on mechanism designs pioneered by DeFi entrepreneurs, a new wave of DAOs are exploring ways for groups to come together, pool resources, build things, and self-govern.
15/ Composable NFT games like Loot incentivize the community to build an entire world around a single set of NFTs— an activity that would be impossible without the ownership and portability that Web 3 enables.
16/ There is nothing intrinsic about fungible tokens that needs to be related to money and finance, and nothing intrinsic about NFTs that needs to be related to art and collectibles.
17/ Those are great initial applications, and will likely remain very important, but tokens are better thought of as a new digital primitive, analogous to the website— the atomic unit around which a new era of the internet is organized.

A bit of a personal update, I've been #BUIDLing on a new fun project which I'm calling ⵣ Tribes. It's a decentralized communication platform. So what does that mean? A Pitchstorm 👇🏼
What would email look like if it was built with crypto in mind?
Blockchains are a collection of valuable networks. i.e., Tokens, NFTs, or DAOs are their own social networks.
Facebook, Twitter, Snap, etc., all monetize your data. What if we can flip the model? You own your data, and you should be able to monetize it.
Tribes mission is to tackle these three themes. Are you interested in a demo or an actual pitch? I would love to connect. My DM is open.

IT'S HERE! 💡 DAOs - The New Coordination Frontier 🚂 A Comprehensive Report on DAO Creators Curated By @GitcoinDAO @banklessDAO 🤖❤️ Click here to read it https://bit.ly/DAOCreatorReport
Key Takeaway 1 DAOs are here today. DAOs are a worldwide trend & an emerging part of the Ethereum ecosystem. It’s happening! DAOs are already enabling dense p2p networks of value exchange & participation.
Key Takeaway 2 There is a decentralize ecosystem of DAO types, tools, and engagement patterns in the DAO ecosystem.
Key Takeaway 3 Crypto is very geographically diverse. A diversity of skillsets was represented in the survey results. Age + Gender diversity is a big problem. A majority of respondents to our survey were 20-40 year old males.
Key Takeaway 4 DAO Fatigue is real for a minority of highly engaged participants. Most survey respondents were in 1-2 DAOs, but for the minority who were in 3-6 DAOs, feeling pulled in many directions was a real problem. Meaningful participation cannot be had beyond 2 DAOs.
Key Takeaway 5. There are a few key levels of abstraction in the DAO ecosystem in composable bites: - L1 ecosystem. - DAO - Creator
