I spent the last few months designing our first subscription product, Twitter Blue. Now available to my 🇨🇦 friends (and🇦🇺) on iOS as of today! We’ve heard from our most passionate users that we need more power-user features, and that’s who Twitter Blue is for. 🧵
To design for this product, we broke it up into two primary surface areas: 1️⃣ The Twitter Blue product 2️⃣ The Twitter Blue features
1️⃣ My foundational goal was to design a flexible system and container for the product so we could easily expand/grow out our feature offering once we had this foundation setup.
My biggest design challenge was the identity of Twitter Blue. 🤔 What does the sign-up page look like? 🤔 Does it look different than regular Twitter? 🤔 Should it look special because it’s paid? Ultimately what felt the most natural was that it should just be Twitter.
2️⃣ Designing the feature work. My design process was similar to working on other Twitter features, however, one nice thing is that we can offer feature customization rather than us trying to decide on one option aimed at the largest audience.
↩️ Undo Tweet Probably one of the most nuanced feature I’ve ever designed, and everyone has different preferences for how they use this feature. This is why we have the ability to customize when and how long you see the Undo Tweet option.
📰 Reader Mode A growing number of journalists, writers and everyday people use threads as a format to tell their stories. Reader Mode allows you to toggle into a new view to read these threads in a seamless design.
🔖 Bookmark Folders Finally you can organize all those great Tweets you’ve saved!

When you go to https://www.Twitter.com on an iPhone, a pop-up nudges you to use the app. Yet when it comes to *searching* Twitter, that’s laughable. The app gives barely any filters & options, unlike the website which has loads. (There are more but I can only add four photos)

Today’s my last day at Google.

Deeply grateful to the folks who believed enough in a dropout from a state school enough to open up 12 years of incredible opportunities to improve the web.

Thanks for all the 🐡

this is super smart. a new collective, including @brianmcc, @chrismessina, and @Kantrowitz, is going to share a podcast feed to monetize their clubhouse rooms and twitter spaces. easier to market a podcast and regularly publish when you share the work https://www.theverge.com/2021/6/1/22461737/twitter-spaces-clubhouse-room-collective-spacecasts-podcast-feed

Launches can be nerve-wracking.

After listening to launch experts @chrismessina and @gonsanchezs, I now know that there’s only one real way to increase your chances of success…

I just graduated from Yale and realized how much more there is to learn. But I did uncover 7 lies you've been told about the world. Here's the truth🧵
Lie: The information you learn in school matters. Truth: Learning to learn is more important than any subject you study.
Lie: Networking is about collecting as many business cards as possible. Truth: You can attract interesting people to you by sharing here on Twitter. Once you do, developing these relationships is the most important thing you can do.
Lie: Successful people have more willpower. Truth: Successful people build systems to make hard things easier to do.
Lie: Life is long so don't worry about your career when you're young. Truth: Successful people don't stumble into it. Don't let hope be your plan.
Lie: College is now worthless because you can learn anything on the internet. Truth: College is where you become the average of the 5 people you surround yourself with. Don't underestimate that energy.
Lie: Teaching yourself to code is incredibly useful. Truth: If you're below average at programming, you'll never be a great builder. Instead, double down on your strengths by building an audience or getting good at sales.
Lie: Smart people are smart in all areas. Truth: Many of the smartest people are dumbest outside their area of expertise. Ever try to talk to a computer science major about Russian history? Everyone has their blind spots.

9 years ago today, I founded Coinbase. One of the most important lessons I come back after all this time is long-term focus.
I’m grateful to see how far crypto has come since Coinbase was founded. Hard to imagine that only 9 years later we would see crypto regularly discussed by Presidents, Saturday Night Live hosts, and Tom Brady. Or that it would show up in songs by Nas.
It’s tempting to get caught up in the excitement of the current moment, but the truth is there have been many ups and downs of the 9 years.
It was during the company’s low periods that I worked to find balance and avoid getting distracted. It was only because of perseverance and focus that we made it through those hard periods where we lost many employees, partners, or public support.
Importantly, we had to maintain that same mindset during the periods of excitement around Coinbase and crypto. There are just as many risks to getting caught up in your own hype as there are in giving up when times are tough.
Times feel good right now. But when this current cycle ends we may see crypto prices fall, and some people will become disillusioned and walk away from crypto (again).
It makes no difference to me; we will keep building and moving forward, because I want to see a world with more economic freedom, and this is the best opportunity I see to create it.
I like to tell my team: If you can't ignore the hype while things are trending up, then you can't ignore the despair when things are trending down. We need to develop resilience, ignore the noise, and continually make forward progress on our mission.
This has served us well over the last 9 years, and I expect it will continue to do so over the next 9 years. In terms of long term focus, we are still at the very beginning of this journey. Let's keep building!

@brianmcc @chrismessina enjoyed last week’s Space convo. I would pay for access to a recurring convo in which you provide context or speculate on what product iterations or evolutions mean big picture. AirTags in cars? TipJar as a peak into the creator economy? Gimme more!

I'm so done with people tweeting lists of "best makers," "best marketers," or "best founders" with NOT ONE FEMALE ON THE LIST I'm so sick of this sh*t There are too many awesome women on Twitter for this to keep happening So let's create a list of powerful women to follow👇
Who are the other powerful female movers and shakers of Twitter? Feel free to tag yourself! Let's build a list so prolific, NO ONE can use the excuse "Oh, but I just haven't come across any women on Twitter"
I made a List of all of the incredible women mentioned in this thread. Thank you all so much, truly, for contributing. https://twitter.com/i/lists/1391046901949112324?s=20
