I’m so excited for Twitter’s updated visual language to become a reality. 🎉 To set the tone of the visual presentation of the product, we took a principles-first approach. With these principles, we are able to unify around a shared sense of what matters most to us. (🧵)
Our visual principles provided us the inspiration and constraints to craft a set of recommended design techniques. These techniques served as a way to align on a visual direction and to scale it to the entire development team (Eng, Product, Design, Research).
We also used this visual evolution as an opportunity to create newly defined guidelines for our design tokens, like typography, color, motion, iconography. This documentation is meant to ensure our growing design team feels confident working within our new language.
What’s launching today is just the beginning of the visual evolution. It lays the foundation for changes to come that make the experience feel more uniquely Twitter. I can’t wait for y’all to be on this journey with us.

🧵 Here’s the tea on Design Tokens for Twitter’s new Visual Design Language. Specifically, the learnings that I gained working on Android, iOS, and Web for the Revenue, Marketing, and Consumer design systems. (1/7)
🎨 Colors I tried generating these using ColorBox, but adjusting the contrast ratio for accessibility and getting clean shades was near impossible. We ended up using a handpicked spectrum. Also naming `Blue100`or `Blue50` is far more useful than `FaintBlue`or `FadedBlue` (2/7)
🔤 Typography iOS and Android have predefined ratios for Font-size:Line-height. So instead of overwriting each instance, we specify a few cases where both Line-height and Font-size are respected. For the rest, only Font-size. IMO, fighting the OS is a losing battle. (3/7)
🤏 Spaces, BorderRadii, and BorderWidths I’d advise using numbers in your naming. It’ll save your team time in development. You will get push back about maintainability, but realistically, we changed these values only one time in 5 years. Hot take: `none: 0` is useful. (4/7)
🐛 Types, feature-switches, and experiments For Web, use Flow or Typescript. It’ll save you a lot of time. For iOS & Android, since the release cutoffs are biweekly, I try to feature-switch my changes when convenient. Otherwise, maximize the testing time on internal builds. (5/7)
📣 Stages for Pull Requests 1. Introduce the new variables. 2. Switch over to the new names and values. 3. Deprecate the old names and values. I make sure to communicate with the on-call engineers to ensure that they know these changes are coming before merging. (6/7)
😌 I sleep better at night knowing that the design systems and production apps share the same tokens. The same language across Android, iOS, and Web. Check out this splendid thread by @ashlie to understand the principles behind our Designs. (7/7)

Quick thread: I don't think most people know what antivaxx posts on Facebook really look like. That's good. Why would you? But I think people assume it's Suzy Turmeric plaintively yelling at you about the microchip, and it’s not. It looks like this. Like code. Or gibberish.
Antivaxxers are calling themselves something, anything else on Facebook. Once they change their group name, the adapt their whole vocabulary to fit it. Here’s a list of codewords for the group of people who don’t “go dancing” — or won’t get the vaxx. Pizza. Beer. Moana.
Antivaxx codewords have two purposes: Most importantly, they stay on Facebook. They’re still a community. But it also offers a sense of belonging, a secret code, a sense of mischief. People feel like they’re getting away with something, part of an ingroup.
No one's quantifying these groups. When Facebook reports on vaccine misinfo, they don’t mention Dance Party’s 40k members. They can't. They don't know it exists. It’s also how these groups actually operate. They know what gets caught by moderation bots. They maneuver around it.
Part of the identity of antivaxxers is beating the system. Here's one group gloating about beating bans last week. Many in the movement are anti-government. After all, they think the country's being poisoned by it. The evasion, the codenames, the hiding is part of the fun.
You may be thinking, “Isn’t this exact kind of ban evasion how terror groups operate?” Yep. The Boogaloo Bois wear igloo patches because they changed their groups to Big Igloo on Facebook to avoid a ban, for one. It’s not new. It’s why it’s weird Facebook isn’t ready for it.
Dressing up antivaxx stuff in code, I think, is at the center of the fight between The White House and Facebook. The WH knows Facebook to be a breeding ground for rumors that end up in real life. Facebook points to some data that says the opposite, but it’s not complete.
But the argument is missing this key detail: There is no big group on Facebook called “The Vaccine’s Got Poison In It and You Shouldn’t Take It.” It’s complicated. The WH and Facebook should look to researchers who have studied these movements for years instead of buckpassing.
There are solutions here. Facebook has to admit it’s a problem, and The White House needs a better solution than yelling at them. Talk to people who know how these groups operate. It’s fixable, or at least more knowable and manageable than politics is letting on.

Introducing... @Hyper_ A new kind of early-stage VC inspired by the community of makers & early adopters at @ProductHunt. http://hyper.com/
2/ Building products has become easier over time, but it's harder than ever to break out. Hyper exists to help early stage founders with what they need most -- breaking through the noise, and connecting to the right networks.
3/ .@Hyper_ will invest $300K in a small number of companies 4 times a year. Each company goes through an 8-week-long founder program with access to Hyper's partners to help with distribution, mentorship, community, and fundraising.
4/ You can think of Hyper as Product Hunt's sister company - they have a strong bond and share the same mission of helping makers make great products. We plan to reinvest our fund profits back into the ecosystem enabling us to double down our support of Hyper Companies.
5/ We're excited to share that our partners include @a16z, @sequoia, @AngelList, @twentyminutevc, & @ProductHunt (of course) to name a few.
6/ That’s where @Hyper_ comes in. We do a lot more to help our companies with the venture part of venture capital. If you're itching to learn more, check out the official announcement https://www.producthunt.com/stories/product-hunt-meet-hyper

Square is creating a new business (joining Seller, Cash App, & Tidal) focused on building an open developer platform with the sole goal of making it easy to create non-custodial, permissionless, and decentralized financial services. Our primary focus is #Bitcoin. Its name is TBD.
Like our new #Bitcoin hardware wallet, we’re going to do this completely in the open. Open roadmap, open development, and open source. @brockm is leading and building this team, and we have some ideas around the initial platform primitives we want to build.
How is this different from @SqCrypto? Square doesn’t give direction to @SqCrypto, only funding. They chose to work on LDK, and are doing an incredible job! TBD will be focused on creating a platform business, and will open source our work along the way.
We’ll set up Twitter and github accounts soon and update this thread on where to find them.

Today, we announced that ShapeShift is decentralizing. Unorthodox, but it is the only way to maintain fidelity to the most important principles of crypto; specifically, self-sovereignty over money. Without that principle upheld, we’re all just LARP’ing. A thread…
ShapeShift has been a centralized company for 7 years. We pioneered the self-custody revolution, enabling people to trade assets without counter-party risk. It has always been our goal to protect users, while making self-custody easy and fun.
We have investors, a board, an exec team, corporate entities, bank accounts, an HR department, a beautiful office overlooking the mountains to the west, paid “our taxes,” and like proper conformists we even followed all OSHA workplace signage requirements in our break room.
This corporate model is standard for all economic organization at scale, persisting through the 20th century and into the 21st. Every company is structured roughly in this way, with a plan to IPO, acquire, or be acquired.
But if you’re familiar with the Fourth Turning paradigm, you may understand that the organizational format that succeeded during the Industrial Age may not be the optimal format for the digital age. There is a new kind of “firm.” The decentralized autonomous organization #DAO
DAO’s are emerging from their trough of disillusionment. They are dynamic, they are non-jurisdictional, and they are shockingly powerful. They have no center. They rely on no bank account. They demonstrate anti-fragile, emergent order.
But why should we, an established and well-funded for-profit corporation, consider such a model? Simple: centralization has become a liability against the realization of our vision.
ShapeShift’s vision is the establishment of an immutable, borderless financial system. Let’s be direct: money and finance shall not be operated by coercive government among free people. They shall—like language, mathematics, and love—emerge voluntarily and without central rule.
Money shall emerge from markets, and this is what crypto has always been about. It’s a destiny unlocked by the invention of #Bitcoin, & by the blooming ecosystem of assets and crypto-economics that #Ethereum unleashed. We love these systems & must build with fidelity to them.
Upon much reflection, we’ve come to the conclusion that the vision of an immutable, borderless financial system can only occur upon open, decentralized protocols. So we’ll start with ourselves. We must be the change we wish to see in the world.
Starting today, we begin open-sourcing the ShapeShift project, dissolving our corporate structure toward zero, and re-organizing around a borderless, decentralized community governed by the holders of the FOX token.
Tokens, more than equity ever can be, are borderless and immutable. To build a global platform for crypto finance, this is the appropriate base of economic arrangement. Tokens have been abused, but they are the future.
We’re stepping into that future, & away from the trappings of equity and incorporation. Equity and incorporation fasten an organization to jurisdictional friction. Appropriate for industrial companies in the 20th century. Inappropriate for digital companies in the 21st.
We have granted tokens to our beloved employees, our supportive investors, and as of this morning, over one million ShapeShift customers and defi community members. In terms of recipients this was the largest airdrop in history. Many projects have been inspirational to us…
@Uniswap @THORChain @gitcoin @AaveAave @BalancerLabs @SushiSwap @iearnfinance @compoundfinance @MakerDAO @AlchemixFi @1inch @0xProject @CurveFinance @BadgerDAO Tens of thousands of members from these communities have all received FOX. Thank you for pioneering.
We now continue transforming ShapeShift from a central entity into a decentralized autonomous organization, governed marginally at first, and then completely, by FOX holders. A DAO treasury of roughly 1/4 of the FOX supply has been placed in the hands of these holders.
After this transformation, there is no corp. No CEO. No board. No shareholders. No employees. No banks. No office. No statist OSHA posters. What remains is pure technology in the service of users: an open-source, non-custodial, cross-chain crypto interface for all mankind.
To all the individuals and projects that have pioneered this path of decentralization, we salute you. To those who have a passion for an honest, transparent, immutable, borderless financial system, please join us in this next phase of ShapeShift. #ViresInNumeris

What we did to get @typedreamHQ #1 Product of the Day: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/typedream Reminder: nothing is instant, we've been preparing for this since Day 1. A thread 👇
Before the launch: 1. We started our Typedream journey in public #buildinpublic. We tweeted about what we wanted to achieve, our struggles, small wins - our entire journey.
2. We made community (almost like a cult 😈) of Typedream simps in which people had to "simp" for us to get access to our beta. We were also active on Twitter. Made a lot of friends with similar interests, especially in the #NoCode community ❤️
3. We iterated our product based on our beta testers' feedback and found 10+ people who LOVED our product and validated the idea.
Launch: We realized we only get to do this once so we went ALL OUT.
1. We tried to make our assets (video, images) as beautiful as possible https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S82eTmhPlL8 . Btw to those if you who loved our video, we made it using @adobeAE!
2. Our Twitter friends helped perfect our tagline, built the hype, everything - @rauchg, @reallynattu, @fajarsiddiqFS, @felix12777, @dadimdum and many more. You know who you are! Also followed this PH launch tips:
Jim Raptis @d__raptisLAUNCH ON PRODUCT HUNT. A big thread about everything I know about the topic. twitter.com
My top 3 favorites: ⬇️ 1. Find a hunter - You leverage the hunter's audience - You have more chances to be featured - You engage with a person who's an expert on PH Once again, big thanks to @chrismessina for hunting!
2. But when is the best day to launch your product? Here is the typical traffic for a Product Hunt week: - Monday → Medium - Tuesday → High - Wednesday → High - Thursday → High - Friday → Medium - Saturday → Low - Sunday → Low We launched on a Wednesday.
3. During your launch day, you need to be 1000% active and engage with your fans and the community. It's a crazy day and you might need to say "thank you" in 100+ different ways. Your presence is as important as your product. People love to know who is behind a product.
