5 ways leaders can support their teams during this time of heightened racial trauma for Asian and Asian-American communities: #StopAsianHate
1) Communicate in a company-wide channel (ex: All-Hands, Slack) that you are paying attention to what’s going on. “I want to acknowledge the increase in hate crime amongst Asian and Asian-American communities as it impacts us all.”
2) Share your emotional response. Remember, vulnerability builds trust. “I am feeling angry and sad about the increase in hate crime amongst Asian and Asian-American communities.”
3) Link to company values. “Now is the time for us to live our values of empathy and connection.”
4) Level up shared identity language. “We must all take responsibility in supporting and hearing the needs of our teammates who are most impacted.”
5) Leverage 1-1s. Ask questions like: How have you been feeling? How can I support you in taking care of yourself this week?”
